Update your Waiting Room

Medical offices and businesses corporations are always looking for new ways to design their front lobbies and any other areas where customers and clients must wait in before being seen. The average waiting room area is usually a small space filled with mediocre chairs, stacks of magazines and stale coffee. New and existing clients can usually gauge how professional and profitable a business is by the way they design their waiting areas. Because this is the first room that a client sees, a successful business should create a lavish waiting area for clients to relax in before seeing their desired associate. Here are a few ways to update the look of your waiting room.

Have a healthy amount of reading material. Patients and clients are very comfortable waiting for longer periods of time when they have sufficient reading materials. Make sure to have the latest month’s publications for viewing and keep these areas clutter free. An insider tip is to also have children’s books and magazines on hand, in case any of your clients bring their children with them on these appointments.

Next, is your customers have to wait more than 10 or 15 minutes to be seen, have a coffee machine on hand that serves up cappuccinos, fresh coffee and tea. Small cookies and little bites are also a nice touch to the waiting area and it encourages clients to relax for a few minutes before they are seen. Keep these items fresh and nutritious. Your clients will definitely remember this and they won’t dread their next appointment with you because they know that they will be in good hands.

Pay attention to the dcor in the waiting room and the outside environment. For example, if your business is a medical office, some patients will be nervous upon arrival and may be weary to find out about bad news regarding their health. If your office faces a busy entry way, you might consider installing translucent draperies for the protection and privacy of your clients. Pick the right style that will let natural sunlight in, but can also be closed if your patients feel uncomfortable. To ease the nerves of weary patients, install a countertop water fountain near the receptionist desk and near the front door. The soothing sounds of trickling water will not only stimulate their senses, but also encourage them to be aware of their surroundings and well-being. Wall fountains are another stimulating decorative feature and are mesmerizing enough to also put patients at ease. Floor fountains can be purchased in any size imaginable and in colors that can match any designed waiting room.

Although some business owners say that a television set can be distracting in a waiting room, many others would disagree. A television set is a great way to entertain patients while they are in the waiting area. Tune into local news, put on a comedic movie, or turn on a children’s network to entertain your younger clients. Flat screen television sets are becoming more affordable and create an image that your business is running well and is highly profitable.

One of the most important assets in a well-maintained waiting room is a knowledgeable and friendly receptionist. This may seem like a fairly obvious addition to the waiting room area, but I can’t tell you how many times a receptionist has ruined a trip to a medical office or professional building because he or she wasn’t expecting my arrival or didn’t have the knowledge or resources to answer any of my questions. Choose a receptionist with at least three years experience and make sure they are well aware of the running of the office.
