Every homeowner dreams of living within the confines of their homes without having to worry about indoor pollution.  Be smart and make use of green cleaning products

Almost every one of us is allergic or hypersensitive to one or more substances that are known to precipitate an unusual reaction.  These substances are called allergens and can include a variety of irritants, pollens, animal dander and even house dust.

Some people are even allergic to substances in soap and cleaners which produce a skin irritation.  Allergic symptoms can range from itching eyes, running nose, coughing, difficulty in breathing and welts on the skin to nausea, cramps and even going into a state of shock, depending on the severity of the particular person’s sensitivity and response.  Almost any part or system of the body can be affected and almost anything can become a threat to somebody.

Studies have shown that natural cleaning products are much safer to use especially if there are people living in your household who are allergic to the chemicals emitted by regular cleaning products which are considered to be one of the major factors in indoor pollution. 

Not only do they affect the quality of the environment indoors, these toxic products can greatly harm the well being of every living being inside your house.  Allergens may also affect the respiratory tract bringing on sneezing coughing and breathing impairment.  Green cleaners can help you reduce the exposure to irritating or potentially toxic chemicals which many regular household cleaners contain. 

These strong chemicals may be particularly worrisome if you have children or if someone in your household has asthma or other breathing problems.  At the same time, many of the ingredients in regular cleaners are made from petroleum that is a nonrenewable resource.  Just think about it, even after they go down the drain and are processed at the wastewater treatment plant, there will be some damaging chemicals such as phosphates that can greatly destroy the ecosystem when they are eventually released in the waterways.  If you are used to cleaning with such aggressive conventional cleaners, keep in mind that having a very clean house and living in a dying planet may not be so pleasant to deal with.  With this in mind, isn’t it better to use organic cleaning products for a clean home and save the planet at the same time? 

Fortunately for us there are now cleaning agents that have passed the test and can be considered as very friendly to the environment not to mention to the health of everyone in the household.  These products are also free from phosphates so there will be no fear of destroying the ecosystems.  There are also cleaners that are free from nonylphenol ethoxylates which are considered to be water pollutants.  NPEs can be found in many laundry detergents and other cleaning products and can be difficult to avoid.  As water pollutants they are released into the waterways and are toxic to aquatic plants and animals.

Choose cleaning agents that are plant-based or have bio-based ingredients.  Cleaners that contain hydrogen peroxide are very effective and are also less harsh than that containing chlorine bleach.  Also keep in mind that the fewer products that you need to buy the less waste there is to see.  Multipurpose products cut the time and money in half and they are handier and easier to use. 

These products are now available for you and it is now up to you if you want to save the planet.  It is said that if you want to protect the environment, you should start at home.  Even more so now that studies indicate that the environment indoors can be more polluted and toxic than the outdoors.  What is also alarming is that the presence of pollutants inside your household can have dire consequences with regards to the health and wellbeing of each and every person and animal living indoors. 

The quality of the indoor environment depends largely on the presence of pollutants whether airborne or not and it is solely our responsibility as homeowners to be aware and informed of what products to use most especially when it comes to cleaning agents.   Try using green cleaning products.
