If you want to furnish a boy’s room, you may choose a walnut bunk bed.  A walnut bunk bed is made of a dark wood that is perfect for the masculine touch that is often desired in a boys room. You can choose from a variety of bunkbeds today that are on the market.  Some of them have drawers on the bottom that allow for extra storage.

A walnut bunk bed will have a wood ladder that reaches up to the top bunk.  The child who sleeps in the top bunk will not be able to fall out because there will be a rail across the sides of the bed to prevent him from falling out.  Some bunkbeds actually have drawers on the side and are larger units that are built not only to save bed space but also storage space. 

Another wood bunk bed you may consider is a maple bunk bed.  Maple is a fine, solid wood that will last for a good long time.  You an can use this type of maple bunk bed in your boys room and they will be thrilled.  You may have to referee over who actually sleeps on the top bunk as this bed is usually the most coveted, but this will be well worth it. 

Some wooden bunkbeds are not vertically stacked but stacked in an L shape.  This makes it look a bit more pleasant in the room and less like a dorm room.  Bunkbeds have been used in the armed forces, college dorms and in prisons for a long period of time.  They did not get to be popular in private homes until the 1960s.  Until then, it was very common for children to share double beds. 

If you want to set up a boys room, you can use a walnut bunk bed.  This dark wood will work in your boys room.  Even if you only have one child, your boy may, like other boys, enjoy making a tent or some sort of fort out of the bottom bed.  This is not a bad idea and adds fuel to the imagination.  While you do not want to see your child spend too much time in his room, it is healthy for him to imagine that the bottom bunk is a tent, a ship or some other fun area where he can have fun. 

For adults, their home is their castle.  Children, however, have no home of their own which is why their bedrooms are so important to them.  If you have more than one child sharing a room, bunkbeds often are the way to go as they limit space use. 

If your boys fight over who gets the top bunk, you should make them take turns.  This is, of course, if the younger boy is not old enough to be in the top bunk.  The top bunk can be something that will be dangerous for a child who is under the age of 6 years old.  For this reason, bunkbeds should be used by children over the age of 6.  This goes at least for the top bunk.  If you have two children who are fighting over the bunk bed, the deference should go to the older child.   One of the privileges of age.  You can also use a chart to determine when one of the boys gets the top bunk or allow them to compete by doing chores and keeping track of the chores so they can earn the top bunk. 

If you do decide to allow them to compete for the top bunk by doing chores or helping neighbors, you should make sure that the competition is age appropriate and fair.  You should also make sure that you follow through with the reward.  Nothing is more frustrating to someone than to work hard towards a goal and have the goal removed.   You want your children to work towards goals.  You do not want them to feel that working towards goals is fruitless. 

A boys bedroom is made for bunkbeds.  Young boys really like this standard of sleeping that gives them privacy in a room that they have to share with a sibling.  A walnut bunk bed is ideal for a boys room as is a maple bunk bed as both woods are very durable and can stand the abuse that boys are bound to give them. 

Although there is a wooden ladder that will lead up to the second bunk, boys will be boys and may think of more exciting ways to climb onto the top bunk, including climbing up the sides of the bed.  This is why it is so important, especially when you are dealing with boys, to have a good sturdy wooden bunkbeds. 

Bunkbeds are part of many childhoods.  People today who had to share bedrooms with siblings, often talk about using bunkbeds or having to sleep in the bottom or top bunk.  Bunkbeds are a lifesaver for parents who want to save space and keep the boys’ room looking neat.  It will work well to keep the room looking neat as well.  The less space you take up in a room makes it less likely to look cluttered. 

Take your boys with you and look at several different bunkbeds on the market.  Take a look at the walnut bunk bed as well a the maple bunk bed and see how sturdy they are.  Are they going to work well for your boys?  See how long they are made to last as they should last until your eldest son goes off to college. 

Once your kids have left the nest, there is not much reason for bunkbeds.  Bunkbeds are most often used for younger kids who enjoy sleeping in that wonderful top bunk.  You can sell the bunkbeds second hand to someone else as walnut and maple are woods that will last a good long time, especially if you have boys who can be somewhat rough on the bunkbeds.   Choose bunkbeds that will last when you are furnishing a room for boys.
